EVE Online Basics

I still remember my first hours within EVE Online. A Trailer pitched my interest and soon later I installed the trial and ventured out into the sandbox that got promised there. And the promises were in no way exaggerated!
But with the depth of EVE game play there also a lot of complexity. There are many informations to consume, many things to learn and experience. Back when I started, some web sites provided collections of links pointing to further and more detailed information. But as time goes by and EVE reinvents itself regularly, adding new features, many of them are now out of date. I maintain my site with the same intention. To collect and list all the excellent information and tools created by the community in one place, not only for new players but also new players - and myself. New players can find many informations that cover the basics and most important topics of EVE Online but also go beyond that and get more in depth details for nearly all activities and elements of the game, all created by players, and some additional information by CCP themselves.

Below you'll find an excerpt of my own creations that are especially helpful for Rookies, as an introduction to what you can expect from sticking to this site. But make sure to explore further sites, most of which you can find within my link collection. Come and join our community, the residents of New Eden! Especially now is a great time to enter the game, because over the course of the last one and a half years, CCP handed even more control and responsibilites within the game over to us players, which got increased velocity with the release of EVE Online: Rubicon.

This „Developer Blog” also presents several Sites with valuable Information for new players.

Have fun exploring and fly safe!

EVE Online Information for New Players

EVE Ships

Fitting Units
Around 300 Ships are available in EVE. You can find them all here, together with their Attributes to take a look at what you can choose from.

Core Skills and often used Modules

Module
To use those ships effectively, you need skills and equipment to fit the slots with. There are skills that are required to use a ship or module and several more that increase their performance. Luckily, your skill training continues even when you are offline. This page shows many of the important core skills as wells as those that help you to use your equipment even better. Additionaly you'll find the modules available for the various fields of use, like ship resources, navigation and of course weapons.

Attributes of Ammunition

Module
The Weapons ini EVE are useless for combat without Ammunition, there would be nothing to shoot an NPC or other player into the face. There are hundreds of ammunition types overall, which also have varying attributes, so it'S easy to lose track. My overviews for Turret Ammo and Missiles may help you with that. There's also a list of Drones to filter and sort, which apply damage for you in a semi automatic way.

Colortags and Timers

Colortags
You actions in New Eden can have several consequences controlled by NPC authoritieis or your ship's technology. Attacking NPCs, stealing from and combat with other players activate timers on you, and other players may have such flags as well. How you recognize them and what causes and effects they have is explained here.

Asteroids found in Belts

Module
Asteroids are available in almost all of New Eden. But not all types of Ore are available everywhere. On this page you can see the areas within the sovereign space of the major empires and the types of ore availabe within. Tooltips for the Asteroid types and Factions provide additional details like the minerals contained the ore and the regions controlled by a faction.

Distances

Mining Guide
Access to and interaction with Objects in EVE is often limited to a specific maximum distance or you need to be more than a specific range from an object. Here are the distances you'll most likely encounter while in space.

Agent's Missions

Agentenmissionen
One way to gain the game currency Inter Stellar Kredits (ISK) is accepting missions from Agents. Like Quests in other MMOs the agents hand you a task you have to complete and once you have completed the mission you get rewarded with ISK, Loyalty Points (to buy items which you can use or sell to other players) and Standing. Mission running is amongst the most popular ways to spend time and gain ISK and on this page you'll find links to guides of more than 500 missons that you may encounter.

NPC Damage Types

NPC Schadensarten
During PvE Combat with NPCs you will engage various enemy faction's ships. They all apply and tank the four damage types in varying quantities. Many also use individual types of electronic warfare against you. On this page you can quickly see what damage types you will need to protect gainst in average and also the factiuon's weak spots and EWar specialty

Exploration site Overview and Guides

Scan Sites
If you don't want to follow the orders of an agent and would rather like to explore the various sites in New Eden, sites where you can shoot at NPCs, break open containers and loot the riches within, you'll find links to detailed information on this page. The same applies should you wish to enter the unknown - Wormhole Space and exploit the sites in this even less controllable space.

Collection of Links

Linksammlung
As I mentioned above, one of my main intentions is to provide a growing and up to date collection of links to web sites that cover one or several areas of EVE Online, offering quick guides or in depth information. This colection has many of such links and also introduces you to places where the community meets to exchange their thoughs and ideas.
